However, they will accept the test scores from candidates that took the FCTC written exam as valid scores in their hiring process. THE ONE-STOP TESTING RESOURCE FOR FIRE DEPARTMENTS AND FIREFIGHTER CANDIDATES
In the fire service, the toughest decisions aren’t always the ones made in the heat of the moment. Finding the right people to serve on the front lines can carry the same life-or-death implications.
The Firefighter Candidate Testing Centers (FCTC) are here to help ensure that would-be firefighters have the "right stuff" so that departments can make the right call for the people they serve.
Backed by the experience and commitment of the California Fire Fighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (CFFJAC), FCTC brings all the elements – recruitment, written testing and CPAT into an integrated, secure service that makes it easier to match qualified recruits with departments that need them.
FOR CANDIDATES: Complete written and physical ability testing accepted by departments up and down California.
FOR DEPARTMENTS: Rigorous, fully validated testing and verification, to help match you with the right people for your community.
SECURE ON-SITE WRITTEN TESTING
The FCTC’s written exam is a rigorous, fair and fully validated test. It is administered on site to ensure its integrity, giving you confidence that your high standards will be met.
CPAT: JOB-SPECIFIC PHYSICAL ABILITY TESTING
The Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) is the acknowledged standard in California for high-quality, job-specific physical ability testing. The timed CPAT challenges would-be firefighters on eight events critical to the job. Since 2004, more than 30,000 prospective firefighters have taken the CPAT through CFFJAC’s CPAT Centers. The CFFJAC’s CPAT card has become the standard for most California fire departments.
