You are invited to participate in the FIREHIRE® Inc. entry-level firefighter examination process. You must meet the following criteria to apply for the examination process administered by FIREHIRE® Inc.:

A complete synopsis of the examination and selection process follows. The entry-level firefighter examination is a very competitive process. The candidates are expected to study hard and be in good physical condition. There are a large number of people interested in working as firefighters. This testing process is based in whole on a detailed firefighters' job analysis. Once your application has been submitted and approved, you will be able to compete in the examination process. You must pass all phases of the examination process in order to be considered for employment. As a candidate, you will be placed on our registry which is valid for one (1) year from the date of completion of your written examination and physical ability test dates. The testing procedure is performed semi-annual basis.

FIREHIRE® Inc. BENEFITS
|
|
- You are placed on a registry which is valid for one (1) year from the date of your successful completion of the written examination and your physical ability test. These examinations CANNOT be over one year old. The testing procedure is performed on a semi-annual basis. When you are registered with FIREHIRE® Inc., there are numerous benefits.
|
- You can download, receive via e-mail or regular mail, an application packet by FIREHIRE® Inc.. You then complete the application and submit it to FIREHIRE® Inc. You must then submit that application (and any required supplemental certificates, licenses, etc.) to FIREHIRE® Inc. That is the only requirement to participate in the examination process.

- You participate in one (1) content validated written examination and (1) one content validated Physical Ability Test per year. FIREHIRE® Inc. only accepts successful completion of the CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test). We do not accept the Consolidated Physical Ability Test ("Biddle").
|
- Your pre-employment medical examination is performed by an independently contracted medical physician and is scheduled with our contracted occupational health clinic.
|
- Once you're placed in the registry, you may be considered for employment by several agencies. Thus, saving you the headache of taking multiple examinations.
|
- Your examination participation fee may be tax deductible as a job seeking expense (consult your tax advisor).
|

|
WRITTEN EXAMINATION
|
|
|
You must achieve a passing score of 70% on a 130 question written examination in order to be invited to participate in the physical ability testing process. The written examination consists of 65 Emergency Medical Technician questions, and 65 firefighter questions. These questions are based out the available FIREHIRE written examination study guide. This portion of the exam is weighed at 100% of the total test score.

PARAMEDIC EMERGENCY MEDICAL ASSESSMENT CENTER
|
|
|
This event consists of a patient in full arrest. There are critical care criteria points that must be addressed or it is an AUTOMATIC FAILURE. You are graded on the criteria established by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians®. This event is weighed pass/fail and is video-taped.

ESTABLISHMENT OF REGISTRY LISTING
|
|
|
If you successfully pass the written, submit a valid CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test), you will be placed on an eligibility list. You will be placed in the order that you scored on the written examination. In case of a tie, multiple candidates may be eligible for the agency oral examination.

When an opening in a respective agency becomes available, the candidates application packet and/or Résumé will be sent to the hiring agency for evaluation upon request. The hiring agency will then contact you to schedule an oral interview. Once the eligibility list is given to the respective agencies, FIREHIRE® Inc. has no further information (i.e. oral interview dates, how candidates are selected, etc.) Once the interviews are complete, the respective agency will then notify FIREHIRE® Inc. of which candidate(s) they would like to offer employment. You are then scheduled for the following pre-employment screening process. This may include an extensive pre-employment physical, back and chest x-rays, stress treadmill tests, blood work, and drug screens. The process may also includes a comprehensive background investigation, including criminal and civil records investigation, a credit check, education, employment, and reference verifications. The screening process might also include a polygraph and/or psychological profile examination.

If you fails any facet of the pre-employment screening process, you may obtain a second opinion from an independent physician. This procedure must be approved by FIREHIRE® Inc. and the hiring agency prior to scheduling. You are responsible for any costs associated with a second opinion for any of the pre-employment screening processes.
